Natural woods will change color over time with exposure to oxygen and light. Natural wood will change size and shape due to temperature and humidity. Swelling, shrinking, checking, and curving can occur with prolonged exposure to moisture or prolonged exposure to the lack of moisture.
The standard allowable tolerance is 1/8” per lineal foot. Materials within spec are considered acceptable as a natural characteristic of wood and are not defective.
A climate controlled environment is required to minimize seeing this seasonal change. Storage of wood products within a 68-72 degree Fahrenheit household should have a relative humidity of 40-50%.
Any warping that takes place beyond 6 months of the original purchase date will not be considered warrantable.
Metals exposed to moisture and oxygen will rust if left uncoated. When exposed to a flux in temperatures, condensation can form on the surface. We recommend the use of coated or exterior grade fasteners be implemented if products are used outdoors.

First things first: Please ensure your cleaning products are recommended for use on products from Mountain View Woodworks, LLC. Always test cleaning products and methods on a small, inconspicuous area prior to adopting the practice entirely. Any damage to yourself or furniture resulting from cleaning products is not covered by our warranty.
Regarding finishes, the ones we use are formulated to provide excellent water, chemical and wear resistance.Follow these recommended guidelines to maintain your finish:
• Most surfaces require only dusting with a soft cloth and the occasional cleaning with a soft damp cloth and then dried.
• For heavily soiled areas, use a mild soap. Follow this by wiping with a damp cloth to remove any soap residue and wipe dry. Always test in an inconspicuous area before forging ahead.
• Avoid products that contain ammonia as they can cloud a finish. Many glass cleaners contain ammonia.
• Flax oil soaps require rinsing, and can leave a residue if they are not rinsed well
• A lot of damage to a finish can be avoided if spills and splatters were simply cleaned when they occurred.
POLISHES AND WAXES
In general, we do not recommend the use of polishes and wax.
• Today's modern finishes have the sheen built in.
• Over time finishes develop micro scratches on their surface which gives them a dull appearance.
• Wax has no real practical application and can lead to water rings.
• If you build up too many layers of wax, it will over time soften some finishes and eventually cause them to fail.
• Polishes are mostly a slow drying oil, often with some silicone in it to give it some slick.
• If they are not cleaned off occasionally, eventually it will build up on the surface and ultimately lead to finish failure.
